Mad Poacher Escapes
          Players Warned

He can streak across the court and hammer you with a backhand volley as hard as most guys hit an overhead.  So beware, and don't stand too close to the net (especially if your partner can't keep the return low!)  Just ask Jim Wainscott what can happen.  Or, better yet, roll your mouse over Wainscott below.

According to Wainscott, it was just a routine practice match with his guys.  "All of a sudden this ball came out of nowhere and knocked the sunglasses clean off my face.  Heck," he says, "if I had known the guy was that good, I would've had him on my side of the court."

Senatore Receives Award

Garry Senatore, founding President of the new Roeding Park Tennis Club, received a Service Award during the March tournament ceremonies.  Under Senatore's leadership, the club became a charitable Non-Profit corporation in the State of California.  With his familiar chuckle, Senatore mingled with his old pals during the tournament.  He promised to come out to the courts more to work on his tan and his spectating skills.

            Ball Bounces To Napa

Mike Ball also received a prestigious Service Award during the March tournament.  Ball, who spent as much time on the Roeding Park tennis courts as the leaves that seem to be permanently on court #1, has moved to Napa.  The former RPTC President, has already found a local USTA team to satisfy his lust for the game.  With his wacky spins, Mike will surely brush the nap off the Napans as he conquers his new tennis foes.  Ball made a considerable contribution to RPTC in his few years in Fresno.  There is no doubt he will be a sweet addition to his new arena.

   Lost Players Sighted
Harbert & Hennings Still Alive

Ralph Hennings was sighted at the tennis courts on Saturday, March 5th at approximately 10 am.  The towering blond with the big serve hadn't been seen at the Park in three years; his mere presence caused more than a few doublefaults as he stood alongside center court and spoke with Jim Givens and Stan Poss.  According to Givens, "At first I wasn't sure it was Ralph, I was so shocked.  But when Stan struck up a conversation with the guy, then I was sure."  Givens said that Hennings is one of the few regulars who can keep up a conversation with the scholarly Poss.  "Walter Stuart is about the only other one who can understand Poss," Givens said, "at least as far as I know."

Despite rumors to the contrary, Roeding regular, Dennis Harbert, is still breathing.  Apparently, Harbert was seen on Fenton's Court on April 2nd.  According to witnesses, he even had a racket in his hand and was defending himself admirably.  Harbert, who actually looked a little more lean and mean than usual, teamed with  Jerry Corwin to fend off blows from  heavyweights Fritz Wilke and Sue Yang
