New Players Come Out
For Big Event In October

       Wainscott, Pope, Aloojian Dominate

With 44 players, the Roeding courts were at near capacity for what turned out to be the last tournament of the season.  Wiry Bruce Wainscott won the Gold, finishing just one point in front of cagey lefty, Jas Chauhan.  Veteran Jim Givens was third, with Canadian transplant Randy Shearsmith trailing closely at fourth.

Tom Pope, making his first official appearance in years at the Park, won the Blue division handily, several gulps ahead of his buddy Tom Ramirez, who put in a good showing to slide into the number two slot.  Jerry Corwin and Jack Lovgren tied for third, with fourth place being a tie between Jack Horwitz and Larry Tonel.

The hobbling Paul Aloojian, who could as well be playing with a cane and a courtside ambulance, dominated the Red group with Christine Milgrom  in hot pursuit.  Ken Johnson took third, while newcomer Gayle Merritt held tight to the number four spot.

(PREVIOUSLY)

After the July tournament, veteran, Jack Lovgren lead the 05 Grind by a stout margin.  With only one tournament remaining, Chito Marquez, almost 20 points behind, had little chance to catch up to the wiry Lovgren.  In fact, Marquez had the formidable Sue Yang at his heels.  Behind Yang, in quick pursuit, were three players with tough games and tough names Pete Amomonpon, LeRoy Luokkanen, and Jas Chauhan.

July Players Sizzle

Luc, Parra, Lovgren Kick Butt

The July tournament was the strongest yet, with talented players dropping all the way down into the Red division, where Jack Lovgren handily gathered up his points and finished 3 ahead of Dana Leroy, who had her best showing yet.  Ken Johnson and Ed Wiens tied for 3rd.

In the Blue group, The Cisco Kid (aka Armando Parra) edged out Wanjew (Jack) Horwitz.  Both men took home trophies, much to the disappointment of Kevin Cronin, Pete Amomonpon, Chito Marquez, and Casey Odland, who trailed by only one point.

Mike Luc slid past Ray Yap and Mike Lebsock to take the coveted Gold division, which was loaded like a hot car.  Bruce Wainscott, Richard Pizzaro, and Tim Hernandez received second degree burns as they fought their way to the top of the pack.
